Rum and coconuts! The training takes place mostly in Nungwi where you can fill your bellies with local cuisine or order the pizza and ice cream. Stone Town and Kipepeo are your other options for western food but you are sailing through the spice islands so it’s a shame to miss out on the traditional dishes.

Staples like rice, onions and tomatoes can be found in most village shops along with curry powder and peanuts. Get up early enough and you’ll be treated to chai tea and chapati for breakfast. It’s a good idea to pack lunch or bring along energy bars to stuff in your face between waves slapping your face.
Bottled water is available in most places but sometimes the only option to replenish is from a well so purification tablets should make your shopping list.
